Best Budget-Friendly Destinations for Remote Workers

Being a digital nomad doesn't mean you have to travel on a tight budget. On the contrary, sometimes you can enjoy luxury at the best price by making smart choices. In some parts of the world, a villa with a pool, a delicious brunch, or a weekly spa routine can be cheaper than a regular apartment in your city.

I call this “smart luxury.” Choose the right destination, plan your budget wisely, and enjoy a luxurious lifestyle at an affordable price. In this article, I’ll tell you about 5 special cities that are both budget-friendly and luxurious in 2025. Who knows, maybe next time you’ll be joining a meeting from a tropical poolside.

2. City List: Budget-Friendly Luxury Destinations

1- Bali, Indonesia

  • Average Cost of Living: $1,200–$1,800/month (2025)

  • What is luxury? In Bali, luxury means staying in a villa with a pool, waking up to a smoothie bowl every morning, watching the sunset at a beach club, and making massages a routine.

  • Digital Nomad Infrastructure: Ubud and Canggu offer fast Wi-Fi, coworking spaces, and plenty of networking events.

  • Vibe Note: A weekly massage in Bali can be cheaper than a week’s worth of grocery shopping in Türkiye. Please don’t leave without trying it!

2- Tulum, Mexico

  • Average Cost of Living: $2,000–$2,800/month (2025)

  • What is luxury? Tulum, the address of bohemian luxury, features private beaches, boutique hotels, yoga retreats, and chic restaurants.

  • Digital Nomad Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is inconsistent in some areas, but coworking cafes are growing rapidly.

  • Vibe Note: Tulum may seem expensive, but with the right connections, you can get “local prices.” Stay long, go local, and your wallet will thank you.

3- Hoi An, Vietnam

  • Average Cost of Living: $800–$1,200/month (2025)

  • What is luxury? In Hoi An, boutique hotels along the river, villas with private pools, spa centers... All at prices that are laughable compared to the West.

  • Digital Nomad Infrastructure: Strong Wi-Fi, and despite being a small city, coworking options are increasing.

  • Vibe Note: Morning on the beach, afternoon in the old town, evening at the spa… This is the perfect embodiment of the concept of “quiet luxury.”

4- Cape Town, South Africa

  • Average Cost of Living: $1,500–$2,200/month (2025)

  • What is luxury? Ocean-view apartments, wine tours, fine dining restaurants… Cape Town is a hidden gem for “affordable luxury.”

  • Digital Nomad Infrastructure: Co-working spaces, fast internet, and a large expat community.

  • Vibe Note: Sipping your morning coffee with a view of Table Mountain is priceless. Everything else is quite reasonable.

5- Medellín, Colombia

  • Average Cost of Living: $1,000–$1,500/month (2025)

  • What is luxury? Modern apartments, rooftop bars, private gyms, and a stylish café culture.

  • Digital Nomad Infrastructure: Strong internet, plenty of coworking spaces, and an active community, especially in the Poblado district.

  • Vibe Note: They call it “Spring City”; 12 months of spring, low costs, and great rooftop parties… What more could you want?

3. Tips for Saving Money While Living Luxuriously

Don't be intimidated by luxury living; with a little smart planning, it's possible to enjoy yourself without breaking the bank. Here are a few practical tips based on my own experiences:

  • Rent Long-Term, Share a Villa:
There's a huge difference between weekly and monthly villa rentals. If you say you’re staying for a long time, the price drops by half. Sharing a villa with a friend or other travelers is a golden rule in places like Bali and Tulum.

  • Discover Local Luxury:
Skip the tourist traps. Local spas and wellness centers are both more affordable and more authentic than hotels. Cheap massages, yoga studios, fresh smoothie bars... Sometimes luxury is much more intimate than a 5-star hotel.

  • Local Restaurants, Fine Dining Experience:
In many cities, “locals only” restaurants are both cheaper and tastier. For a luxurious dinner, be sure to try the places recommended by locals—your wallet won't suffer, and your stomach will be happy.

  • Early Booking & Loyalty:
Beach club, boutique hotel, retreat... The earlier you book, the cheaper it is. For long stays, ask about loyalty discounts and membership programs. Most people don’t ask, so they don’t use them, but by asking, you can secure serious advantages.

Vibe Guide: “Smart luxury” is exactly this: living without wasting money or compromising on enjoyment. Once you try it, there’s no going back!

4. Conclusion: Living Luxuriously Is Not a Dream

I know it’s hard to believe that a Bali villa with a pool could be cheaper than an Istanbul apartment (I’m actually living the life I’m talking about in Bali, which is more affordable than my current home in Istanbul). But you’ll see when you try it: With smart planning, the right location, and the right timing, “luxury” becomes achievable.

Remember, it’s not about spending money; it’s about turning money into pleasure. Everything I’ve shared in this article is based on real experiences, so don’t hesitate to take steps toward creating your own luxury.

So my question is: Which of these 5 destinations would you choose to experience your own luxury?

Share your thoughts in the comments or DMs—maybe one day we’ll enjoy a cup of coffee together in the same villa (I brought plenty of Turkish coffee with me, I promise! :)
